Synopsis

Shinpachi Shimura comes back to Edo after a year and finds a city transformed: allies, acquaintances, and neighbors exhibit radically altered looks and behaviors. Gintoki and Kagura, normally his Yorozuya companions, now act as entirely different people, and even Shinpachi’s sister Otae is married to Isao Kondou and expecting a child. Confused, Shinpachi initially flees the Yorozuya base but is persuaded by Otae and Kondou to join the Shinsengumi, where more unexpected shifts are visible across the ranks. Noting that Vice Chief Toushirou Hijikata appears unchanged, Shinpachi teams with him to try to return Edo to its former state. The story continues the series’ tone of irreverent humor, parody, and bawdy jokes as the Yorozuya navigate a city filled with strange, alien influences.
