Following the Johto League, Satoshi sets out afresh for the Hoenn region with Pikachu at his side. His solo plans shift when Haruka, a 10-year-old who prefers to avoid Pokémon but wants to see the world, joins after an encounter that leaves her bicycle ruined by Pikachu. They are later joined by Satoshi’s longtime friend Takeshi and Haruka’s younger brother Masato. Together the group explores Hoenn, facing Gym Leaders, entering Pokémon contests, and taking part in various events as they work toward the Hoenn League.
