Synopsis

Nobita Nobi is a young elementary schoolboy who struggles with studying, performs poorly in sports, and approaches tasks half-heartedly. Timid and often unlucky, his timid nature leads to repeated failures that ripple into his descendants. Concerned about this bleak legacy, his great-great-grandchild Sewashi travels from the 22nd century to the 20th century to intervene. Sewashi appears unexpectedly in Nobita’s room accompanied by a blue robotic cat named Doraemon, who explains that Sewashi insisted he assist Nobita with the goal of improving his life. Doraemon, initially disheartened by Nobita’s plight and tempted to return to his own time, is prevented from leaving by a program Sewashi activates. Remaining in Nobita’s era, Doraemon employs advanced gadgets drawn from a four-dimensional pocket—an inexplicable pouch that holds an assortment of futuristic devices—to support Nobita’s efforts to find greater happiness. The story follows their relationship and asks whether Doraemon’s aid can alter Nobita’s path and ultimately allow Doraemon to resume his journey to the future.
