Synopsis

After a period of calm at the Kamiya dojo, Kenshin Himura faces a decisive moral crisis when his pledge to never take a life is challenged. The assassination of his former commander forces him back toward lethal conflict to confront Makoto Shishio, an assassin who claims to carry on the Battousai's legacy. Shishio, who has spent a decade preparing, seeks to topple the Meiji government and assert control over Kyoto by assembling a powerful anti-government force. He also aims to win over Aoshi Shinomori, a ruthless former Oniwaban leader. While traversing a village abandoned by the state and dominated by Shishio’s agents, Kenshin resolves to stop the nation from sliding into renewed civil war. To oppose Shishio’s growing dominion, he forms a tentative alliance with former rival Hajime Saitou, and together they confront the threat that could determine Japan’s future.
