Synopsis

At the start of the Meiji period, after years of Bakumatsu conflict, the famed assassin known as Battousai vanishes, leaving behind only stories. Some years on, a quiet traveler named Kenshin Himura arrives in Tokyo and crosses paths with Kaoru Kamiya, who runs a small, struggling dojo founded on her late father's life-affirming swordsmanship. A dangerous impostor claiming the Battousai name stalks the streets, killing civilians and officers while asserting allegiance to the Kamiya Kasshin-ryu. Kenshin offers to help Kaoru unmask this fraud and revive the dojo. Unknown to most, Kenshin is the genuine Battousai; when Kaoru discovers his identity, she is moved by his vow to atone for past killings by defending others without taking life. Their uneasy peace, however, is threatened as remnants of past conflicts and new foes resurface, testing Kenshin’s commitment to protect without bloodshed.
