After seeing the legendary "Little Giant" display incredible volleyball skill, Shouyou Hinata becomes captivated by the sport's pace and aerial plays. His attempt to shine in middle school ends disastrously, but he remains determined to prove that his limited height can be overcome through relentless effort. Entering Karasuno High—the former powerhouse of the Little Giant—Hinata believes he is closer to his aim of reaching the professional ranks. The school, however, no longer holds its past dominance, and Hinata's resolve is immediately tested when Tobio Kageyama, the exceptional player who crushed Hinata's middle school team, becomes his teammate. To pursue his ambition of making an impact in a game often dominated by taller players, Hinata must bridge his conflict with Kageyama and learn the essentials of cooperative play. Only by understanding how to function as part of a unit can he truly begin the climb toward volleyball's summit.
