Synopsis

A new retelling of the classic Gegege no Kitaro centers on a young boy who lives among yokai in the Gegege Forest and cemetery, places where spirits frequently appear. He shares his home with a mostly lifeless father who endures only through a single living eye, along with allies such as Sunakake Babaa, NekoMusume, and Konaki Jiji. This version follows the familiar episodic encounters between yokai and humans, preserving the series’ mood of eerie coexistence and subtle melancholy. One visual distinction in this iteration is the protagonist’s brown hair, a departure from the customary gray-silver look used in earlier adaptations.
