Synopsis

On a grim July night in 1998, teenager Fujino Asagami is assaulted by a gang in a rundown bar, yet she reacts with a detached, unreadable demeanor. The following day the same location is found littered with mutilated corpses so disfigured that investigators question whether a human being could be responsible. A client approaches Touko Aozaki’s detective agency and assigns Shiki Ryougi the task of finding and either apprehending or eliminating whoever caused the carnage. Soon it emerges that one person survived the massacre, and the perpetrator relentlessly pursues that survivor to finish what they began. Facing an enemy that evades even Shiki’s famed perception, she must quickly track down a threat that appears to lie beyond ordinary human comprehension, while contending with the harrowing aftermath of violence and a desperate race to prevent further slaughter.
