Synopsis

Vanitas and Noé Archiviste travel to Gévaudan to investigate a massive wolf-like threat blamed for numerous killings, believing the creature may carry a vampire-related curse. Vanitas seeks to use his grimoire to cure the Beast, while Noé accompanies him. The pair become separated and are transported back to the moment the Beast prowls the forest, leading to a confrontation with the enormous wolf and a vampire hunter. Vanitas forms an uneasy alliance with Jeanne, whose orders are to slay the Beast because she suspects it could be someone from her past, putting her objective at odds with Vanitas's aim to heal. Meanwhile, Noé, gravely injured, is rescued by Chloé d'Apchier and her attendant. Chloé, like Noé, is a vampire erased from public memory and has historically protected future generations while seeking a path to regain humanity. Noé appreciates Chloé's care, but he is unaware that she may be aligned with forces more perilous than the Beast itself.
