Synopsis

In a near-future setting, large multipurpose robots called labors perform tasks from construction and firefighting to military roles. Although these machines are tools, their human controllers can commit crimes, and a labor in the wrong hands becomes a significant threat. To address this danger, law enforcement fields specialized patrol labors—patlabors—to counteract labor-enabled offenses. The narrative follows the Second Special Vehicles Division, a diverse team of officers who operate these patrol units as they respond to incidents, confront criminal misuse of labors, and attempt to balance the demands of policing with the desire for everyday normalcy.
