Synopsis
Takashi Natsume frequently encounters spirits tied to a ledger left by his late grandmother, Reiko, which lists names of youkai she bound to contracts. These meetings expose him to the lives and motivations of the spirits, reveal aspects of Reiko’s history, and prompt personal reflection. The ledger holds significant power over youkai, drawing attention from both supernatural beings and those who practice exorcism. Natsume seeks an ordinary, quiet existence, yet his attempts at normalcy are repeatedly interrupted by these supernatural interactions. To lessen the burden these encounters place on him, he must investigate the ledger’s nature, learn more about the practices and people involved in dealing with spirits, and gradually allow others to support him emotionally as he confronts his past and the consequences of Reiko’s actions.
