Synopsis

In a far future where people can attain endless life by buying robotic bodies—an option affordable only to the wealthy—young Tetsurou Hoshino dreams of securing passage on the Galaxy Express 999, a cosmic train said to grant a free mechanical body at its final stop. After his mother is killed by the menacing machine-man Count Mecha, Tetsurou faces despair until Maetel, a tall blonde woman bearing an uncanny resemblance to his mother, rescues him and presents him with a ticket. She imposes a single condition: they must travel together. With that, Tetsurou sets off with Maetel aboard the Galaxy Express, journeying between diverse worlds and encountering a series of adventures as he seeks the one thing he most longs for.
