Synopsis

Tetsurou Hoshino, driven by the desire to replace his mortal body with an immortal mechanical one and to avenge his mother’s killer, targets the expensive procedures available only on a distant planet. Lacking the means to pay, he resorts to stealing a boarding pass for the Galaxy Express 999, a spacefaring train whose terminus offers free mechanical bodies. Fleeing the authorities after the theft, Tetsurou collapses and is found by Maetel, a mysterious woman who bears a striking resemblance to his deceased mother. She offers him entry onto the 999 on the condition that he accompany her. He accepts, and together they embark on a voyage across the galaxy aboard the cosmic train, facing unknown challenges as he pursues his goal.
