An all-powerful artifact that can grant any desire has sparked three devastating conflicts with no clear winners. Despite that history, the influential Einzbern household believes they can secure victory in the Fourth Holy Grail War after obtaining a vessel linked to the relic. To pursue this goal, they hire the feared "Magus Killer" Kiritsugu Emiya and formalize the arrangement through his marriage to their daughter, Irisviel. Kiritsugu is thrust into a merciless survival contest against six other masters, each partnered with a summoned heroic spirit and driven by their own goals and convictions. He fights alongside his servant, Saber, while confronting a particularly challenging rival in Kirei Kotomine, a priest searching for meaning and relief from his inner void through the conflict with Kiritsugu. Adapted from Gen Urobuchi's light novel, this story recounts the events of the Fourth Holy Grail War, occurring a decade before Fate/stay night, and follows a brutal free-for-all where victory is uncertain and survival is far from guaranteed.
