Synopsis

Ten years after anomalous portals—Heaven's Gate over South America and Hell's Gate above Japan—transformed the night sky, regions wind up under an oppressive, altered firmament. These Gates defy conventional physics and coincide with the emergence of Contractors: individuals who trade aspects of their humanity for extraordinary abilities. In the urban area centered on Hell's Gate, Section 4's chief investigator Misaki Kirihara confronts the enigmatic Contractor known as Hei. Operating under the underworld epithet "Black Reaper," Hei and his associates accept assignments from a cold, secretive Syndicate while gradually uncovering a sinister scheme that endangers the future of Contractors themselves. Conceived by Tensai Okamura, the story is a science-fiction thriller that examines a shadow war where political authority and conventional notions of justice hold little influence, and conflicts are resolved beyond public view.
