Synopsis

This recap film revisits the TV series' events, centering on Mirai Kuriyama, the lone remaining member of a clan that uses their own blood as weapons. Tasked with eliminating youmu—beings born from negative human emotions—Mirai’s isolation is disrupted when she meets Akihito Kanbara, a rare half-youmu living as a human. In a startled moment she drives her blood-crafted blade into him, only to discover his immortality. Their relationship develops into an uneasy companionship defined by Mirai’s repeated attempts to kill Akihito as a means to shore up her fragile confidence as a Spirit World warrior. Akihito, in turn, persuades her to join the school Literary Club, where she encounters Hiroomi and Mitsuki Nase, two other skilled Spirit World members. As their interpersonal ties deepen, the presence and aggression of nearby youmu intensify, and the group’s episodic troubles escalate toward a struggle for survival as the emergence of a legendary, supremely powerful youmu—Beyond the Boundary—draws near.
