Synopsis
At seventeen, Yuzuru Otonashi regains consciousness in a realm between life and death with no recollection of his past. He finds this interim existence shaped like a high school, designated to house those who experienced unwanted deaths. Many of the residents, feeling betrayed by a higher power during their mortal lives, organize the Afterlife Battlefront, a resistance movement aimed at confronting the student council president, Kanade "Angel" Tachibana, who holds great authority over their environment. Yuri Nakamura, the faction's leader, brings Otonashi into their struggle so they can assert control over their fates. As he becomes involved, Otonashi grows uncertain about the ethical implications of the Battlefront's methods and deliberately moves nearer to the council's side to learn more about the perspective they oppose.
