Synopsis

Academy City is a hub of scientific innovation and houses a program for developing espers. Among its most powerful residents are seven Level 5 espers; ranked third is middle schooler Mikoto Misaka, an esper who controls electricity and is known by the moniker "The Railgun." When a series of unusual events spreads across the city, Mikoto discovers links to a rumored apparatus called the Level Upper, said to elevate an esper's power. As the investigation deepens, the true nature of the Level Upper and the darker undercurrents of Academy City come to light. The story follows Mikoto and her circle of friends as they confront the risks posed by the device and the escalating threats it brings, capturing the tense and unsettled atmosphere of a city where appearances can be deceiving.
