Synopsis

Ayumu Tanaka, a former middle school kendo champion, starts high school but chooses an unexpected path: he enrolls in the unofficial Shogi Club solely to be near Urushi Yaotome, the club’s president and only member. Motivated by an immediate crush, Ayumu vows not to reveal his feelings until he can beat Urushi in a fair shogi match. Urushi, significantly more skilled and perceptive, easily anticipates his moves, turning each game into a genuine challenge. Despite this gap in ability, Ayumu repeatedly admires Urushi’s appearance, technique, and smile; his blunt demeanor and restrained facial expression consistently flusters her. Through patient study of shogi and growing familiarity with Urushi, Ayumu gradually approaches the moment he hopes to confess, advancing incrementally with every match they play.
