Synopsis

Thorfinn grew up hearing sailors’ accounts of Vinland, a rumored warm, fertile land free from conflict—contrasting with his icy Icelandic birthplace and his present life as a mercenary. Though his father once taught that no one is a rightful enemy and that it is wrong to harm others, Thorfinn’s experiences led him to a different conviction. The conflict between England and the Danes intensifies, turning death into a routine and drawing Viking fighters who thrive on battle and profit. With both sides’ fortunes able to shift dramatically depending on their alliances, these mercenaries pursue fame and loot amid the turmoil. Inside that violent world, Thorfinn is driven by a singular aim: to avenge his father by killing Askeladd, the man responsible for his death. The story juxtaposes memories of a peaceful promised land with the harsh reality of perpetual warfare and the personal path of vengeance that consumes its protagonist.
