Synopsis

A man awakens in a cold forest with no recollection of who he is, surrounded by unfamiliar landscapes. Lost and disoriented, he meets Kuon, a young woman with animal ears and a tail who rescues him and guides him back to her settlement while defending them from giant centipede-like attackers called boro-gigiri and a strange red slime. Given the name Haku after a notable local figure, he notes he is distinct—lacking the animal features others possess. Traveling toward Yamato’s capital alongside Kuon, they encounter new companions and become entangled in the nation’s political tensions and internal struggles. As Haku slowly pieces together the world’s mysteries, he seeks answers about the red slimes and strives to prevent escalating warfare among neighboring states.
