Following a devastating event that leaves him emotionally shattered, Yabuki Joe abandons his gym and sets out on a solitary journey. During his travels he meets figures such as Wolf Kanagushi and Goromaki Gondo, whose interactions stir a small, renewed desire within him and prompt him to stop roaming. Returning home, Joe resumes his pursuit of boxing but finds himself hindered by deep psychological barriers unknown to him and his trainer. To aid his recovery, Carlos Rivera, a celebrated Venezuelan boxer, is brought in to work with Joe and address the internal obstacles preventing him from fighting.
