Synopsis

Fushi, wearied by repeated encounters with death and suffering, isolates himself on a remote island while repelling Nokker assaults. Rather than confront him directly, the Nokkers strike communities beyond his refuge to provoke a response. A group called the Guardians, led by Hisame—a descendant of the fallen fighter Hayase—tracks Fushi down. Remembering Fushi’s past defense of Janada Island, the Guardians have become widely known and gathered significant support. Though hesitant at first, Fushi agrees to have the Guardians accompany him to examine the site of a recent Nokker raid. In the villagers’ midst he forges alliances with both familiar faces and new companions. As the clashes with the Nokkers continue to produce further loss, Fushi faces the challenge of summoning the inner resolve needed to cope with the sorrow that awaits him.
