In February 1999, a new sequence of killings unsettles Shiki Ryougi and Mikiya Kokutou. The recent murders mirror a series from 1995—the year Shiki and Mikiya first crossed paths—and reawaken a lethal urge that has lain suppressed in Shiki. Because of her connection to the earlier incidents and a perceived likeness to the assailant, Shiki becomes a prime suspect. She and Mikiya launch parallel inquiries to uncover the actual offender. As Mikiya pursues leads, his concern for Shiki's safety intensifies; he seeks to halt whatever danger she might pose to herself by identifying the true culprit. Guided by information from his cousin, investigator Daisuke Akimi, Mikiya delves into Mifune City's darker districts. His resolve to vindicate Shiki and rescue her from the threat within her is central to their efforts.
