Synopsis

Asuna Yuuki, a high-achieving student known for both social skill and academic success, agrees to take a brief respite from exam preparation when her classmate Misumi "Mito" Tozawa invites her to the launch of Sword Art Online, a new virtual reality multiplayer title. The two meet in the game, but the event turns tragic: every participant becomes unable to log out and discovers escape is conditional on completing all one hundred floors. Moreover, death within the game results in death in the real world. Stranded in a transformed reality where progress and survival are inseparable, Asuna and other players, including the solitary swordsman Kazuto "Kirito" Kirigaya, must learn to survive, adapt to ruthless challenges, and strive to conquer the game's layers in hopes of returning to their lives.
