Synopsis

Beings from another realm called Crimson Denizens and Rinne feed on humans' essences, upsetting the world's fragile equilibrium. Flame Hazes are tasked with tracking and eliminating these predators to restore balance. Yuuji Sakai begins an ordinary school day until everyone around him freezes and only he remains able to move. As a Rinne consumes nearby souls and turns its attention to him, a red-haired Flame Haze armed with a katana intervenes and rescues him. After repairing the scene, she reveals that Yuuji is now a Torch—a lingering remnant of a deceased person destined to fade from collective memory. He is additionally a Mystes, a Torch containing an unidentified treasure that Crimson Denizens will seek before his flame extinguishes. Recognizing the imminent danger, the Flame Haze chooses to protect him. Confronted with his status as someone who has died, Yuuji accepts his condition and determines to make the most of the limited time he has left.
