Synopsis

In an alternate Edo-period Japan, a clumsy teahouse waitress causes an accident that draws hostile samurai. When a wild, unorthodox fighter named Mugen and a precise, traditional ronin named Jin clash after intervening, their confrontation leaves the shop ruined and the magistrate’s son dead. Facing execution for the incident, the two are freed by the waitress, who then employs them as bodyguards. She has lost her former home and seeks a particular samurai remembered by the scent of sunflowers; she enlists the reluctant pair to accompany her. Though often at odds and prone to violent rivalry, the trio set out together on a journey through an Edo shaped by both historical elements and modern beats. Their travels combine intense swordplay, moments of comedy, and a distinctive hip-hop–influenced soundtrack, while the challenge of keeping Mugen and Jin from killing each other remains constant.
