Synopsis

A historical prequel presented as three OVAs that examine events leading up to the Saiyuuki team's formal journey west. The first installment revisits Sanzo’s relationship with his mentor and introduces Ukoku, later known as Ni Jianyi. The second episode depicts how Goku and Sanzo initially crossed paths. The third episode addresses the consequences of Hakkai’s past transgressions, his subsequent trial referenced in the series’ first season, and the reasons that lead him to take residence in Gojyo’s home. The tone remains reflective and character-focused, highlighting personal histories and the formative moments that shape the quartet before they unite.
