Synopsis

Jun Sakurada, traumatized by his school experience, has retreated from the outside world and spends most days confined at home, buying items online only to return them before trial periods expire. One day he finds a note asking if he would wind something; thinking it pertains to an order, he casually marks ‘yes,’ an action that alters his life. A package appears containing a wind-up doll named Shinku. Upon being wound, she moves and speaks like a person, asserting herself as the fifth Rozen Maiden, one of several unique dolls created by the famed artisan Rozen. Shinku explains that these dolls engage in the Alice Game, a contest in which each doll, supported by a human partner, seeks victory so that the winner can become Alice — a genuine girl qualified to meet their maker. As additional sentient dolls come to live in Jun’s home and an adversary tied to Shinku’s history emerges, Jun finds his quiet existence growing increasingly complex and fraught.
