Six months after a chance meeting in a library led Sakuta Azusagawa to a joyful relationship with Mai Sakurajima—the woman he first met as a bunny-girl—his situation becomes unsettled when Shouko Makinohara, his early crush now grown, returns. Soon after, he encounters a younger Shouko in a hospital bed, battling a serious illness, and experiences unexplained pain from his old scars whenever he is near her. As Shouko’s strange circumstances appear linked to him, Sakuta must confront the conflicting emotions stirred by both versions of her. Faced with the responsibility that may affect a girl’s survival, he struggles to determine how to act and what his feelings truly mean.
