Synopsis

After Sayaka Miki’s granted wish leads to devastating fallout, her soul gem becomes corrupted and she sinks into despair, ultimately losing what made her human. Homura Akemi explains to Kyouko Sakura and Madoka Kaname the grim destiny that awaits magical girls: corruption of their soul gems turns them into Grief Seeds, and they are reborn as witches—a lesson Homura learned only by repeatedly reliving history in attempts to avert Madoka’s tragedy. Kyuubey deepens their crisis by admitting that he seeks to exploit the energy produced by magical girls to extend the universe’s lifespan. With the immense threat of Walpurgisnacht looming, Homura renews her commitment to shield Madoka and the world from catastrophe. Torn between respecting Homura’s plea and preventing global ruin, Madoka must confront an unavoidable fate and decide whether she will accept the path laid out for magical girls or try to alter it.
