Synopsis

Set during the Sengoku era, the story follows three youthful students—Rantarou, Kirimaru and Shinbei—enrolled at a Ninjutsu Academy where children are trained to become ninjas. Labeled as "Nintamas" (a blend of ninja and tama), the trio and their classmates attempt to master a variety of unconventional and demanding skills, yet frequently stumble and fail their practical and written exams. The academy environment is strict and often exasperating, populated by exacting instructors like Doi-sensei and Yamada-sensei, spirited kunoichi classmates, a band of pirates, and numerous other eccentric figures, producing a wide range of unpredictable situations and comedic mishaps. Episodes are brief, running about seven and a half minutes each, and the series spans many seasons, with most seasons comprising roughly sixty to ninety episodes.
