Synopsis

After surviving a vampire assault, Koyomi Araragi notices unsettling changes in his friend and rescuer, Tsubasa Hanekawa. While passing a bookstore he sees her with a facial bandage and senses that something is amiss. Hanekawa downplays the injury as a domestic mishap and urges Araragi not to worry. Later, when a tailless white cat is struck and killed by a car, the two bury the animal — an act that triggers a series of strange developments. Consulting the eccentric specialist Meme Oshino, Araragi learns that the buried creature is actually an apparition well suited to Hanekawa’s fragile condition. Searching for his friend, he finds her under the influence of the Sawari Neko, having attacked her parents while possessed. With roles reversed, Araragi must intervene to protect Hanekawa the way she once protected him.
