Set in A.C. 196, one year after the Earth–colony conflict concluded with the establishment of the Earth Sphere Unified Nation, humanity appears to be entering a period of unity and recovery. Four of the five Gundam pilots choose to follow society’s move toward disarmament by sending their mobile suits toward the sun. Their plan is interrupted when a rebellion arises under Mariemaia Khushrenada, who claims lineage from the late dictator Treize and intends to assume control. Believing themselves to be the final bulwark for the Earth Sphere, Heero Yuy, Trowa Barton, Duo Maxwell, and Quatre Raberba Winner hasten to reclaim their Gundams and confront the insurrection to preserve the fragile peace pursued by colony and Earth populations. Their mission is complicated by the defection of a former comrade, Wufei Chang, who has aligned with Mariemaia’s forces, turning an already grave conflict into a deeply personal struggle for the pilots.
