In Universal Century 0079’s aftermath, the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon remain locked in scattered conflict after the One Year War. During a key clash, Zeon ace Char Aznable infiltrated an enemy installation, seized an experimental mobile suit called the Gundam, and turned the tide for his side—only to disappear in an accident involving the Gundam’s cutting-edge systems, vanishing with his distinctive red machine. Six years on, low-intensity fighting persists. Teenager Amate “Machu” Yuzuriha lives on a tranquil space colony with her mother and longs for something beyond routine study and exams. Her life shifts when the Gundam QuuuuuuX, a sophisticated mobile suit used by a Zeon squad, crash-lands nearby. Machu immediately shows an instinctive connection to the suit and uses it to repel Federation attackers. She receives support from the enigmatic Shuuji Itou, the pilot of a Gundam that strongly resembles the one associated with the missing Char. Machu’s encounter is observed by a subculture of mecha fans who stage paired mobile suit matches as competitive entertainment. Seeking excitement and human bonds, Machu teams with Shuuji and enters a sequence of increasingly intense clan battles. As their duels escalate, subtle signs point to the possibility of a larger confrontation on the horizon.
