Synopsis

Mekakucity Days presents a sequence of music-driven episodes that depict pivotal moments in the lives of members of the Mekakushi-dan. In one story, Hibiya Amamiya endures a listless summer until a meeting on a park swing with Hiyori Asahina—whose gentle care for a cat precedes a sudden, relentless tragedy—and Hibiya resolves to protect her. Another segment follows Takane Enomoto during a broadcast of impending doom; guided by a voice in her headphones that questions her will to live, she follows its instructions toward an uncertain outcome. Mari Kozakura, judged by others for her white hair and red eyes, longs to leave her solitary forest home; her isolated existence begins to shift after an unexpected knock. The android-like Konoha copes with gaps in his memory and an indistinct sense of yearning; aware that a boy and girl confront an unavoidable summer tragedy, he struggles in vain to change what destiny holds. Finally, Shintarou Kisaragi, whose perfect recollection makes each day predictable, watches the cheerful Ayano Tateyama nearby and feels detached—until an action by Ayano unsettles him deeply. Across these pieces, the series maintains a reflective, melancholic tone as it examines loss, longing, and the limits of agency without revealing key plot developments.
