Synopsis

After an absurd and ignoble death while returning from buying a video game, withdrawn high schooler Kazuma Satou faces a choice from a flashy but exasperating goddess named Aqua: ascend to the afterlife or be reborn in a genuine fantasy world reminiscent of role-playing games. Opting for a fresh start in that world, Kazuma is soon given a mission to confront a Demon King menacing local settlements. Before departing, he may select one item to assist him; he chooses Aqua herself. However, Kazuma quickly realizes his decision was ill-advised—Aqua proves to be of little practical help. Moreover, life in this new realm diverges sharply from expectations shaped by game logic: instead of immediate heroic exploits, Kazuma and Aqua must first struggle with mundane concerns like earning money and covering living costs, and their difficulties are only beginning.
