Megumin is a spirited young mage from the Crimson Demon Village, a secluded enclave of sorcerers known for red eyes and theatrical behavior. Obsessed with perfecting a singular, enormously destructive explosion spell, she accepts the spell’s severe aftereffects—total mana depletion and paralysis for the remainder of each day—over learning any alternative arts. She attends the Red Prison academy with her childhood friend and declared rival Yunyun, where instruction reveals more about the clan’s origins, traditions, and dangers. Supported by her loyal familiar Chomusuke and her little sister Komekko, Megumin refines her talent and pursues her ambition to be the preeminent practitioner of explosion magic.
