Synopsis

After narrowly avoiding destruction by a massive Gauna—an escape that cost many human lives—Captain Kobayashi shifts her political stance and consolidates authority aboard the spaceship Sidonia. With control secured, she sets an objective to remove Gauna from the Lem system, where former Sidonia survivors have founded a colony. Her plan rests on two major advances: potent, long-range anti-Gauna armaments and the creation of Tsumugi Shiraui, the first chimera blending human and Gauna traits and bearing significant destructive capability. Resistance and fear toward chimeras complicate Kobayashi’s strategy, as does the uncertainty of mounting a large-scale offensive. To carry out her campaign she recruits Nagate Tanikaze, a newly promoted elite pilot whose personal history—shaped by encounters involving Shizuka Hoshijiro and the placenta linked to Benisuzume—draws him into a strong relationship with Tsumugi. As preparations build toward a decisive confrontation with humanity’s greatest enemy, Tanikaze seeks moments of calm with his friend Izana Shinatose, even while Kobayashi covertly advances work on an experimental weapon whose deployment could risk Sidonia itself.
