Synopsis

After Earth is annihilated by enigmatic alien entities called the Gauna, the remaining humans live aboard the colossal generation ship Sidonia. Millennia of drift through space culminate in a renewed Gauna assault after a century-long lull. Humanity narrowly repels the threat through the efforts of Tsumugi Shiraui, a human–Gauna hybrid, and Nagate Tanikaze, an elite Guardian mech pilot. A decade later, Sidonia experiences a fragile calm. During this interval, Tsumugi grows aware of her affection for Nagate, who is venerated as a Sidonia hero. Yet Captain Kobayashi understands that the existence of the Gauna makes lasting peace impossible. Leaders resolve to mount a conclusive engagement that will determine the survival of humanity’s last community. As the decisive conflict draws near, the crew must confront whether they can safeguard the people they cherish and secure the future of Sidonia.
