Synopsis

Kino, a fifteen-year-old traveler, journeys alongside Hermes, a sentient motorcycle, moving through numerous countries and unfamiliar places without a fixed destination. Their travels expose them to a wide range of customs and moral landscapes—some ambiguous, some tragic, some compelling—while they meet people driven by different purposes: those who live to work, those who live to bring joy to others, and those who pursue personal dreams. In each locale, Kino and Hermes take note of how lives are lived and what can be learned, acting as impartial witnesses rather than agents of change. They avoid judging or altering the societies they pass through, even when customs seem absurd, guided by a quiet acceptance that things are as they are and that, in their view, the world’s lack of conventional beauty is part of its nature.
