Synopsis

During the turbulent Warring States era in China, a landscape of constant conflict reshapes kingdoms across generations until seven dominant states remain. In Qin, Xin—an orphaned slave who trains relentlessly—shares a close bond and an ambitious goal with his fellow slave and friend, Piao: to someday become a Great General of the Heavens. Their paths are suddenly split when Piao is taken to serve in the royal palace by a retainer of the king. Following a violent coup, Piao returns grievously wounded and carries a mission that brings him into contact with the young sovereign Ying Zheng, whose likeness to Piao is striking. The story follows Xin as he enters the brutal, formative chapters of China’s history, facing political intrigue and battlefield bloodshed while striving to forge his own route to military greatness among the ambitions of the Seven Warring States.
