Synopsis

Humanity is besieged by the alien Abyssal Fleet, and the Kanmusu—young women who house the spirits of Japanese warships—stand as the last defenders. Many Kanmusu face almost certain death as battles push them toward sinking. The Mutsuki-class destroyer Kisaragi is presumed lost, yet after a nocturnal raid the Eighth Fleet discovers her adrift and unconscious at the sea surface. Her presence and odd behaviors provoke wariness among the Kanmusu. Simultaneously, inexplicable phenomena arise: crew members hear unfamiliar voices, sections of the sea turn crimson and corrode equipment, and these abnormalities appear not to affect Fubuki, the Fubuki-class lead. As Fubuki and her comrades investigate and confront these anomalies, revelations about the nature of their struggle and the Abyssal Fleet come to light. Despite the mounting dangers and unsettling truths, the girls continue to press onward to reclaim the seas and safeguard those dear to them.
