Synopsis

Nanami Momozono, a high school student facing homelessness after her father’s debts cost them everything, encounters a man being harassed by a dog and assists him. In gratitude he offers her shelter, which turns out to be an old, deteriorating shrine. When two shrine spirits and a fox familiar, Tomoe, mistake her for the shrine’s absent land god, Nanami is drawn into the role of replacement deity. Tomoe initially rejects serving a human and departs, but Nanami chooses to take on the shrine’s responsibilities rather than return to life on the streets. Seeking Tomoe to help manage her duties, she inadvertently seals a binding contract with the hot-headed fox, making them god and familiar obliged to cooperate. Together they must maintain the shrine while confronting emerging dangers: a youkai that threatens to consume Nanami, a serpent spirit pursuing marriage, and the complicated personal feelings that grow between Nanami and her familiar. The story follows her adaptation to divine obligations, the strains and growth of their partnership, and the emotional challenges that accompany their shared path.
