After seeing Takumi Fujiwara's Toyota AE86 race Keisuke Takahashi's Mazda RX7, Takeshi Nakazato of the Myougi Night Kids issues a challenge aimed at proving his superiority over the AE86 in a downhill contest. Confident that his Nissan Skyline GT-R overshadows the AE86, Nakazato is provoked by a claim that he cannot defeat Takumi and becomes determined to demonstrate that grip-focused driving outperforms showy drifting. Takumi, meanwhile, is hesitant: due to Itsuki Takeuchi impulsively agreeing to the match on his behalf, Takumi insists he is not a racer and initially refuses to participate. His workplace supervisor pressures him, nudging him toward accepting the challenge. When Takumi returns home to retrieve the AE86, he discovers his father has taken the car out, leaving him waiting and gradually rekindling his urge to race.
