Synopsis

On a misty morning on Mount Akina, a black-and-white AE86 speeds past Keisuke Takahashi’s RX7, prompting Keisuke to believe the mountain harbors the ghost of a fallen racer. Determined to unmask and defeat this phantom, Keisuke organizes the Akagi Red Suns to challenge the local Akina Speed Stars in an exchange race, hoping the confrontation will draw out the elusive driver and allow him to settle a past defeat. Itsuki Takeuchi is consumed by cars and racing, but Takumi Fujiwara feels detached from that passion; cars remind him only of his early-morning tofu deliveries in an aging AE86. Still, Takumi knows Mount Akina’s roads intimately, having mapped every hairpin, braking point, and turn through routine. When the Akagi team issues a nighttime challenge, the Speed Stars accept and quickly discover they are outmatched. Their only hope is to persuade the panda-striped AE86 to race for Akina. Reluctantly recruited, Takumi takes the wheel and returns to Mount Akina to defend his town’s honor and face the mysterious rival on the mountain.
