Synopsis

Following the launch of The World R:2, Haseo enters the virtual realm and initially believes he has found companions to adventure with. His early enthusiasm turns to shock when those same players kill his avatar as a prank, but he is rescued by a mysterious, one-armed gamer named Ovan who offers guidance. Haseo spends a rewarding first year exploring the game alongside Ovan and their cleric ally Shino, forming close ties within the online community. That calm is abruptly broken when Shino’s character is slain by an enigmatic attacker called Tri-Edge, a figure whose in-game victims have suffered comas in real life. Consumed by anger and grief, Haseo resolves to track down Tri-Edge and exact vengeance. Set during Haseo’s opening year in The World, .hack//Roots focuses on the relationships he forges in the game and how they are torn apart by that violent encounter.
