Synopsis

Makoto Mizuhara, a talented high school inventor, is preparing a new project for the school festival with his close friend Nanami Jinnai. Tension surrounds the event as Nanami's brother, student council president Katsuhiko Jinnai—who suspects Makoto of scheming to usurp his role—is accused of mishandling festival planning. During a late-night break with their teacher Masamichi Fujisawa, Jinnai secretly tampers with Makoto's apparatus. The altered device unexpectedly creates a portal that transports Makoto, Nanami, Katsuhiko, and Fujisawa to an unfamiliar world. Shortly after arriving, Makoto is ambushed by enormous insect-like creatures and, amid the escape, reunites with Fujisawa and a young woman named Rune Venus. After Fujisawa repels the attackers, attendants identifying Rune as a princess appear and reveal the name of their land: El-Hazard. Taken to the royal seat at Roshtaria, Makoto and Fujisawa face cautious advisers, though Princess Rune insists they be received as honored guests and quickly forms a friendly bond with Makoto. While the group navigates this new realm and its suspicions, Makoto quietly focuses on finding a means to return to Earth, unaware that Nanami and Katsuhiko are also present in El-Hazard.
