Synopsis

Detroit Metal City follows Souichi Negishi, a mild-mannered college graduate whose life is split between serene personal tastes and an extreme stage persona. Publicly, he is known as Johannes Krauser II, the grotesque, hellish frontman of a leading death metal band famed for its violent imagery and crude theatrics. In reality, Negishi prefers peaceful music and a low-key existence, but economic necessity forces him to embody Krauser II during the band's over-the-top performances. The story presents a darkly comic exploration of his attempts to balance the demands of performing as a feared demonic figure, a tentative romantic situation, and handling intensely devoted fans, all while trying to preserve his true, gentle nature.
