Synopsis

In feudal Japan, Manji bears the title "Hundred Man Killer" for having slain a hundred innocents, yet his darker burden is an imposed immortality. Yaobikuni, an eight-hundred-year-old nun, has embedded restorative bloodworms in his body that mend nearly any injury. Tormented by his past, Manji vows to balance the scale by killing one thousand wicked men; Yaobikuni promises to remove his immortality if he succeeds. Soon after making this vow, Manji encounters Rin Asano, a sixteen-year-old girl seeking retribution for her parents' murder. At first he refuses her urgent appeal, but seeing her vulnerability leads him to accept the task of protecting her for four years. Bound by their agreement, Manji and Rin set out together on a hazardous path of violence, vengeance, and the search for atonement, each driven by their own imperative.
